Bengaluru in a new way, Will not use plastics in weddings

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to ban plastic in wedding, as per an order issued in september 7, 2018. A day perior to the  BBMP order  the state government of Karnataka has decided to banned the useage  of plastic in many ways like in school, collages, government department, government run boards, coorporation etc.

A senior member of the Solid Waste Expert Committee set up by BBMP,  N S Ramakanth says that during the wedding season, festival  or  in an small event the useage of cutlery  in an big or small become quotidian.  He says, we had earlier bans such things too  in March 11, 2016 on plastic bags, banners, buntings, flex, plastic flags, plates, cups, spoons, straws, carry bags, cling wraps and plastic sheets, but the implementation was weak so it does not work for long.

Well in order to maintain the bengaluru wedding free from plastics, the BBMP has asked Banquets, wedding halls and community venues to manage the waste in order to maintain the plastic ban by segeration at source.  even they asked halls to make provision for for certain on-site facilities such as plate banks, RO water dispensers, dishwashing facilities and adequate number of colour-codes  for the collection of dry waste, wet waste and sanitary waste.

According to an order, depending upon the size of hall, cutlery made of steel, ceramic and melamine should be arranged.  and the hall do not waste too much water in washing cutlery  and installed dishwasher, and in order to reduce the quantam pet water the hall should installed RO fillter to serve RO water to their guests. The hall should use decentralised system such as composting or bio-methanation plants to treat wet waste at the source itself. and Other wastes are to be given to empanelled vendors.

Ramakanth says, to reduce or to restrain the use of plastic in these wedding venues we are training the bulk of generaters and vendores  for the past couple of month.

Executive Officer of  BBMP Hemalatha K says that,  bengaluru was the first citiy in india who mandated its citizens to segregate waste at source into three categories as per Solid Waste Management 2016.
